The Walkie & Walkie Rider safety course from AI Forklift Training Ltd. Is an OHSA based program that teaches pre-operation machine inspection, safe operation, proper load handling and safe operating procedures.
This course meets or exceeds the operator training requirements under OSHA’s Powered Industrial Trucks Standard (1910.178(l)) and meets the CSA standard B335-15. It is designed to help beginners and experienced operators inspect and operate an electric walkie/rider in a safe way.
The objective of the industrial walkie/rider training course is to give employees an understanding of how to safely and operate a walkie/rider. Walkie/rider training will train employees on how to identify health and safety hazards with the safe operation of a walkie/rider.
An electric walkie/ride is a piece of equipment used to raise heavy loads a few inches off the ground and move it from one location to another. This may seem easy enough, but the walkie/rider can cause serious injury and possibly death if the operator is not trained on how to use the equipment safely.
According to the Ministry of Labor (MOL) It is a legal requirement for every employer to have their employees professionally trained and certified before allowing them to operate an electric walkie/rider.
In Canada there are many accidents, and the main contributor is improper training and not following proper safety procedures. Proper instructor lead walkie/rider training courses help minimize accidents, injuries, and worst-case deaths. By taking the proper training it will make the workplace a safer place for everyone.
The walkie/rider is also known as pallet truck, electric hand truck and pallet jack. The walkie/rider is mainly used for low level order picking. It is quick for loading, off loading and moving product around the warehouse.
Walkie/rider has many make and models. The name “Electric power truck” means that these machines are electrically powered. After taking the walkie/rider certification course the operator will have been trained on the proper safety and handling of a walkie/rider as well as battery care and maintenance.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
•Identify the basic controls of a walkie/rider
•How to perform a pre-inspection
•Safely operate a walkie/rider including picking up, traveling, placing a load, and parking in designated area
•Recognize common hazards associated with walkie/riders and ways to avoid them
A passing mark of 80% must be achieved to receive a certificate of completion and wallet certificate.
Upon completion of the online portion, an evaluation of the ability to operate a walkie/rider must be completed by an experienced supervisor or manager in order to be completely certified.
